Biden struggles to outline his ‘unity’ promise for a divided nation

Barack Obama provided “hope and alter.” Trump vowed to “Make America Nice Once more.” George W. Bush promised “compassionate conservatism.”
And for Biden, the slogan comes down to 1 phrase: “unity.”
Biden campaigned on — and got here to workplace promising — the ineffable idea of unity, a feel-good catchall that proffered bipartisan bonhomie, however with few tangible specifics.
Now, Biden and his group are working to implement that amorphous aim, which has already been weaponized by Republicans who disagree with Biden’s coverage goals and challenged by some fellow Democrats.
